This season, we are thrilled to invite all children in the community to public open auditions for Eugene Ballet’s The Nutcracker performed at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts with live music by Orchestra Next!

Local students have long played an important role in The Nutcracker, and this year we are excited to welcome an even wider audience and invite more young dancers from throughout our community to be a part in this cherished tradition. This season is especially meaningful as we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Eugene Ballet’s The Nutcracker. While the production has evolved over the years, one thing has remained constant: our belief that there is something extraordinary about bringing generations of dancers together to create a shared artistic experience.

All dancers auditioning for a role must pre-register and reserve a spot. Limited spots are available, and dancers are encouraged to register early.

Audition Information

Eugene Ballet Company’s Artistic Directors thoughtfully make casting decisions with great care and consideration. Students will be carefully selected for the role(s) in which they are best-suited. Cast of characters include Bon Bons, Party Children, Waltz of the Flowers, and Snowflakes. 

Bon Bons: Ages 9–12 (3+ yrs of dance experience or EBA Levels 3 & 4)

• Audition: Saturday, September 26, @ Midtown Arts Center
• Check-in at 11:45am 
• Departure at 1:00pm

Party Children: Ages 12–15 (4+ yrs of dance experience required or EBA Levels 4 & 5)

• Audition: Saturday, September 26, @ Midtown Arts Center
• Check-in at 12:15pm 
• Departure at 1:45pm

Waltz of the Flowers & Snowflakes: Ages 15–18 (4+ yrs of pointe Experience required or EBA Levels 5 & 6)

• Audition: Saturday, September 26, @ Midtown Arts Center
• Check-in at 1:15pm
• Departure at 2:45pm

Eligibility and Requirements

• Dancers will audition according to their age, level of experience or EBA Level. Please note that casting is not guaranteed. 
• Please do not audition if you do not intend to participate. 
• Opting out after casting has been released will not be an option, and your account will be billed for participation accordingly.
• Fees:
  • Audition Fee: None.
  • Cast Fee: $75 per child, due October 15, 2026.
• REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY, and dancers are expected to clear their schedule for rehearsals, including any pre-paid activities, birthday parties, etc. Rehearsals are scheduled approximately once a week (generally Saturdays) until Tech/Production Week in December. Dancers may miss only one rehearsal unless you have prior approval from EBA admin. 
• Casting will be set by Eugene Ballet and announced by Eugene Ballet Academy Staff via email by Tuesday, October 6. 

Audition Attire

Girls: Black leotard (or school dress code), pink or skin-toned tights, and ballet slippers, hair in a bun  
Boys: White T-shirt, black tights, white socks, ballet slippers.
