Performance Information
Suzanne Haag’s, Petrushka, An AI Ballet is a bold reimagining of the classic tale where robots dance, sparks fly, and emotions run deep, even for machines. Set in a sleek, high-tech future, Petrushka follows an artificial being entangled in very human emotions: love, jealousy, and an existential longing to understand its place in the world.
With stark, futuristic visuals and electrifying choreography, this reinvention asks: What does it mean to be human? Visually striking and layered with humor and heart, this is a ballet for all ages to experience where technology meets humanity. Orchestra Next will perform Stravinsky’s famously complex score live, adding energy and immediacy to this imaginative re-work of the 1911 original.
Also on the program is Dark Meadow Suite by modern dance pioneer Martha Graham, presented in celebration of the Martha Graham Dance Company’s Centennial. A poetic work, Dark Meadow Suite complements Petrushka with its exploration of life’s journey and the human desire for connection.
