Remember the first time you saw the Nutcracker? The curtain rises and a magical transformation happens on stage. A lifelong memory is formed. The spirit of that first time rekindles itself as you watch the sparkle in the eyes of your children and grandchildren as they discover the Nutcracker. It’s a holiday tradition that families everywhere look forward to each year.
But for many other families in our community, this is only a dream. To walk through the doors of the Hult Center–impossible. To see a performance of the Nutcracker is beyond imagination. To be welcomed backstage for a tour and to meet the dancers is unbelievable.
Share the Holiday Spirit provides a way you can make this uplifting holiday tradition a reality for a local person in need. Individuals and businesses are invited to join the Eugene Ballet Company in this very special project.
Through a contribution to Share the Holiday Spirit you can make this dream a reality for a needy person in our community. A $25 donation provides a ticket for one individual, a $50 donation provides tickets for a single parent and child and a $100 donation makes the dream a reality for a family of four.

Upcoming Events… (Coming Soon)
Eugene Ballet Company has grown to be one of the largest touring companies in the Western United States. Visiting an average of five western states and performing The Nutcracker over 25 times each season, Eugene Ballet Company has built upon its reputation to perform high-quality shows in some of the smallest theaters across the United States.
Although much of the touring is limited to the United States, EBC has performed a diverse range of ballet productions in countries around the globe. In the summer of 1995, Eugene Ballet Company toured the India and the Middle East. Sponsored by the United States Information Agency (USIA), this tour spanned a month and took the company to India, Jordan, Tunisia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. EBC performed Toni Pimble original works such as Columba Aspexit and Children of the Raven, and provided educational outreach to people of many cultures.
Beginning in Colombo, Sri Lanka, EBC traveled through and performed in culturally, religiously and historically rich cities such as Bombay, India, New Delhi, India, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Damascus, Syria, Amman, Jordan and Tunis, Tunisia.
Two programs, each headlined by Children of the Raven (Pimble’s work based on the legends of the Pacific Northwest Coast Indians), along with a variety of demonstrations and educational services, were presented in a variety of venues. EBC performed on stages ranging from a 7,500-seat Roman amphitheater on the Mediterranean in Tunisia, to a theatre located in a Hindu temple in Calcutta, India, to a 12th Century fortress in Aleppo, Syria (where equipment had to be loaded in by two donkeys!). Other ballet works presented on the tour included Pimble’s Two’s Company, the pas de deux from Common Ground, Columba Aspexit, Tango for Five and Lynda Martha’s Sticks of It.
The USIA tour marks the third time the EBC has performed abroad. Aside from a 1987 tour, in 1989, EBC toured Giselle in Taiwan, the first undertaking by a northwest arts organization. This tour included two sold-out performances at the 2,500-seat National Theatre in Taipei, one of the world’s finest new theaters, as well as performances in six other cities in the Republic of China.

The Nutcracker is the most beloved classical ballet of all time. Our production designed by former Disney artist, Don Carson is child friendly. It tells the story of Clara’s dream about her childhood sweetheart, Hans transformed into a life sized nutcracker soldier. The transformation of Clara’s home into the Mouse Kingdom is magical and exciting as giant mice appear from the fireplace and the comic Mouse King enters on a pirate ship. A carousel pony takes Clara for a ride through a winter wonderland and a hot air balloon takes Clara to the Land of Sweets where she meets all your favorite Nutcracker characters. Once again the Eugene Ballet is joined on stage by the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, Oregon Festival Choirs and ballet students from the Eugene Ballet Academy and the region. Founded in 1978 by Toni Pimble and Riley Grannan, the EUGENE BALLET COMPANY, has grown from a community-based dance group to become one the West’s busiest and most versatile professional dance companies. The Company has performed in over 100 cities in 32 U.S. states and internationally to Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Syria, Jordan, Tunisia and Taiwan.
Over the years, the EBC has grown to become a 21-member fully professional ballet company that performs a wide range of classical and contemporary works with four-production resident seasons at the 2,500-seat Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene at the Morrison Center in Boise Idaho as well as annually touring throughout the region.
The EBC has presented over 100 different ballets, created and staged by award winning Artistic Director Toni Pimble and many of the country’s finest choreographers including Anna Marie Holmes, Bruce Marks, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Paul Vasterling, Robert Battle, Charles Bennett, Daniel Pelzig, Jill Eathorne Bahr, Dennis Spaight, Paul Vasterling, Eloy Barragan among others. From full length classical ballets (Swan Lake, Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Cinderella) to contemporary works like Lynne Taylor-Corbett’s In A Word, Robert Battle’s Circle, Line Square and Jill Eathorne Bahr’s Captured Angel and family programs that include Bruce Steivel’s Peter Pan, Ken Kesey’s Little Tricker The Squirrel Meets Big Double The Bear and Daniel Pelzig’s Princess & The Pea, the Company has always sought to present a wide variety of programming for its audiences.
The works of resident choreographer Toni Pimble has long been a mainstay of Company repertory. Ms. Pimble has been awarded a Choreographer Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and Master’s Fellowship from the Oregon Arts Commission. Included in the 40+ works created for the Company have been collaborations with a number of creative artists in a variety of disciplines including author Ken Kesey, native American storyteller Ed Edmo, blues singer Curtis Salgado, silk artist Steve Oshatz, composers Erik Lundborg and Patricia Vann Ness, Thomas Lauderdale and the band Pink Martini, acclaimed theatrical designer Michael Curry, among others. From Children of the Raven (based on the legends of the Native American Pacific Northwest Coast tribes) to Still Falls The Rain (inspired by a story of Taliban intolerance) to Columba Aspexit (thematically based on the oppression of women) to The Skinwalkers (inspired by the work of Native American Pueblo cubist painter Helen Hardin) to Silk & Steel (an exploration of movement and material), Ms. Pimble’s work is known for being innovative, appealing and provocative. Musically, Ms. Pimble is a frequent collaborator with the Shedd Institute for the Arts having received commissions for a number of new works including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer with composer Dick Hyman, Sidney Bechet’s La Colline du Delta, Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring and Aaron Copland’s The Red Pony.
Educational programs are also a focus of EBC activities, including affiliations with Young Audiences, the Lincoln Center Project, the Washington State Cultural Enrichment Program and Artist-In-Education programs promoted through local and regional arts councils. From master classes to performances and residencies, the EBC has presented over 1,000 performances region-wide including two month-long “Dance On Tour” residencies in Arizona and New Mexico sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Over the past two decades, the EBC has been continuously recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts with Dance Company Grant awards and, in 1996, was the first Oregon dance company to be a recipient of the Governor’s Arts Award.
