EBC Performances Available for 2010/2011 Touring

Eugene Ballet Company/Western Ballet Theatre is currently touring several ballets throughout the West during the 2009/10 Season - view the current 2009/10 schedule here. In the 2010/2011 season, EBC will present another full schedule of touring performances.

	Alice in Wonderland The Wild, madcap characters from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice” come alive in this multimedia tale. The ‘Always Late’ White Rabbit, dancing Tea Table, floating jellyfish and crazy croquet game make for a rollicking good time. 	The Nutcracker This is a sparkling production that features sets and costumes created by former Disney designer Don Carson. The Nutcracker. A timeless tale for the holiday season, this year’s production adds enchanting and playful set pieces to a touring production that has delighted thousands. 	Sleeping Beauty World class dancing, lavish sets and gorgeous costumes bring this magical fairy tale to life. One of the most beloved classical ballets in the world, Sleeping Beauty tells the timeless story of good, evil, true love and a spellbound princess who sleeps for 100 years and is awakened by the kiss of a handsome prince. Eugene Ballet Company has grown to be one of the largest touring companies in the Western United States. Visiting an average of five western states and performing The Nutcracker over 25 times each season, Eugene Ballet Company has built upon its reputation to perform high-quality shows in some of the smallest theaters across the United States

Although much of the touring is limited to the United States, EBC has performed a diverse range of ballet productions in countries around the globe. In the summer of 1995, Eugene Ballet Company toured the India and the Middle East. Sponsored by the United States Information Agency (USIA), this tour spanned a month and took the company to India, Jordan, Tunisia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. EBC performed Toni Pimble original works such as Columba Aspexit and Children of the Raven, and provided educational outreach to people of many cultures.

Beginning in Colombo, Sri Lanka, EBC traveled through and performed in culturally, religiously and historically rich cities such as Bombay, India, New Delhi, India, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Damascus, Syria, Amman, Jordan and Tunis, Tunisia.

Two programs, each headlined by Children of the Raven (Pimble’s work based on the legends of the Pacific Northwest Coast Indians), along with a variety of demonstrations and educational services, were presented in a variety of venues. EBC performed on stages ranging from a 7,500-seat Roman amphitheater on the Mediterranean in Tunisia, to a Theatre located in a Hindu temple in Calcutta, India, to a 12th Century fortress in Aleppo, Syria (where equipment had to be loaded in by two donkeys!). Other ballet works presented on the tour included Pimble’s Two’s Company, the pas de deux from Common Ground, Columba Aspexit, Tango for Five and Lynda Martha’s Sticks of It.

The USIA tour marks the third time the EBC has performed abroad. Aside from a 1987 tour, in 1989, EBC toured Giselle in Taiwan, the first undertaking by a northwest arts organization. This tour included two sold-out performances at the 2,500-seat National Theatre in Taipei, one of the world’s finest new theaters, as well as performances in six other cities in the Republic of China.
