Leoannis Pupo-Guillen, Principal Dancer and Soloist


Leo was born in Cuba where he began his ballet training, graduating from the Camaguey Professional Ballet Academy in 2001. After his graduation he joined the Camaguey Ballet Company, where he rose to Principal Dancer performing lead roles in Carmen, Coppelia, Paquita, La Fille Mal Gardee, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, Giselle and Swan Lake. In 2004, Leo moved to the United States with his family. Since then he has danced for the Roxey Ballet and done guest work with the Costarican Youth Ballet, Ballet Ambassadors, Northeast Youth Ballet and Infinity Dance Theater. Leo joined the Eugene Ballet in 2007 and has been featured as Don José in Carmen, the title role in The Nutcracker, George Balanchine’s Who Cares, Siegfried in Swan Lake, Prince Desire in The Sleeping Beauty, Jonathan Harker in Dracula, the American in An American in Paris and Oberon in Toni Pimble’s A Mid Summers Night Dream.
