Anne
Frank - A Contemporary Ballet
That is as Dramatic as it is Moving
Eugene - Hult Center for the Performing Arts
Saturday, April 2, 2011 - 7:30 PM
Sunday, April 3, 2011 - 2:00 PM

Mauricio
Wainrot's dramatic contemporary ballet based
on The Diary of Anne Frank has received
rave reviews throughout the world. More than
a stupendous show that allows you to appreciate
the dexterities and qualities of the dancers,
Anne Frank displays overwhelming aesthetic
and conceptual images against the intolerance
and violence of fascism in all forms.

Toni Pimble’s Concerto Grosso
Concerto Grosso was chosen as the #3 work in Kansas City's "Top dozen moments in music and dance for 2010"
“Toni Pimble’s Concerto Grosso, performed by the Kansas City Ballet, scored big this spring with two new works including a ballet that is surely one of the strongest pieces the company has ever commissioned. Toni Pimble, the British-born founding director of the Eugene Ballet Company in Oregon, has set her piece to Ernest Bloch’s Concerto Grosso No. 1, and her choreography demonstrates a full conceptual absorption of Bloch’s neo-Baroque style — which she expressed with a masterly and fluid catalog of classical and contemporary movements.“
Paul Horsley, Kansas City Independent, December 29, 2010

Gillmer Duran's Tyranny of the Senses
Choreographer Gillmer Duran explores the interaction of the senses as methods of perception. Inspired by Deepak Chopra's "Ageless Body, Timeless Mind", Tyranny of the Senses challenges ideas of perception by experimenting with sight, hearing, smell, balance and acceleration, touch, kinesthetic sense, pain, direction, temperature, their interaction within the brain, and the correlation between these elements and movement. Brian McWhorter, Oregon-based composer and co-founder of leading edge ensemble Beta Collide, will be composing the music for this ballet. |

“…at the end the public was moved
to and the full auditorium remained
silent for a long moment. Then
an avalanche of applause followed...”

“Mauricio Wainrot’s Anne
Frank
is a beautiful, moving ballet that
reminds us that freedom, democracy
and humanity are still rights we all
have to guard.”
