As the story of Alice in Wonderland unfolds, Lewis Carroll, his friend Duckworth and the three Liddell girls punt on the river. Alice finds herself in a dream world where nothing is as it seems. Suddenly a white rabbit appears. Alice tries to follow him but he vanishes, leaving behind a little white glove.
Alice finds herself in a pool of tears of her own making and discovers that she is not the only one who has fallen into the pool. She meets an assortment of animals who dry themselves by way of a race. Suddenly they are all confronted by the Cheshire Cat and one by one the animals hurry away leaving Alice alone.
Alice wanders on and meets a caterpillar. The caterpillar introduces Alice to Father William and his son before he changes into many butterflies and flies away. Three fish footmen present Alice with an invitation to a croquet game with the Queen of Hearts. Alice meets the Duchess who gives Alice a lesson in nursing.
The Mad Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse entertain Alice in a game of musical chairs before introducing her to the King and Queen of Hearts. The Queen invites everyone to play croquet with her flamingos. A game follows but no-one seems to know how to play and the Queen of Hearts cheats terribly to win the match!
Alice meets a Gryphon who takes her to see the Mock Turtle. They dance a quadrille with two lobsters. Alice is just beginning to have a wonderful time when everyone vanishes and Alice finds herself returning to the conscious world where Lewis Carroll is waiting for her.
